Located at the intersection of Central and Southeastern Europe, bordering on the Black Sea, Romania shares a border with Hungary and Serbia to the west, Ukraine and Moldova to the northeast and east, and Bulgaria to the south. At 238,391 square kilometres (92,043 sq mi), Romania is the Eighth country of the European Union by area, and has the Seventh largest population of the European Union with 20,121,641 people (20 October 2011). Its capital and largest city isBucharest– the sixth largest city in the UE. It’s exactly where Luxury Dog The Blog bring you today to alarm about a real disaster happening there.
The 80’s – When Everything begun…
During the 80’s the dictator Nicolae Ceausescu ordered the demolition of thousands of homes in order to replace them with buildings , only problem , nobody thought of the hundreds of dogs, now homeless, and without knowing their place in this new environment. The following year , the population of stray dogs in the capital exploded, today it reach nearly 60,000 individuals estimated . The government can not control the situation despite permanant slaughter in the streets of Bucharest during the last 30 years, As Ukraine during 2012 for the football cup Euro 2012… (See article about stray dogs in “News”)
2013 , The unthinkable becomes reality.
On September 9, 2013 , President Traian Băsescu passed a law legalizing – and encouraging – the eradication of thousands stray dogs. Has voted 233 votes for and 23 against , the law follows the death of a 4 year olds attacked by a pack of dogs a few weeks earlier.
“We fear that there is no euthanasia , but an extensive program of extermination with electric usage, carbon monoxide , and poisoning … ” says Carmen Arsene ,
President of animal protection associations , from his office in Bucharest.
When death and torture become a real market .
In Romania, where the minimum salary is around 180 € monthly, the municipal cost of sterilizing a dog, estimated at 100 € remains particularly high . This method , followed by the majority of countries of the European Union is not yet returned in Romanian customs. Sadly Carmen Arsene is right, and the facts of torture to animals, adults, and babies are now current – not convicted – almost encouraged by the government that paid premiums of 50€ for each animal reported dead (or alive). Killed by electrochoc, beaten with brick, trhew from a rooftop, burned alive, these are some of the way people use to kill them. Actually, we are living of the worst part of dog history, it’s a real genocide happening there and the associations are fighting for the LIFE but it’s not enough as usual.
The following images may be difficult to see, but Luxury Dog Blog thinks that hide the reality is not a solution. The situation is shocking and alarming this is why we decided to publish them.
Citizens attacked , stolen dogs, the revolt of the European Union.
This massacre took such an extent that Romanian citizens begin to be afraid to go out with their dogs at risk of attack is then steal their dogs. The government don’t capture only the stray dogs, but all visible dogs in the city. Despite papers rules, all of the population suffers, young, old, and older people are pulling their arms companion, beaten later in front of their eyes. People tried to fight against dog catchers and tried save their dogs… they were beaten too like this picture show.
Since events are held in major cities of Europe and in Romania to protest against this shameful measure of the European Union. France, Belgium, Germany, Romania, UK, USA … all are conscious of what is happening and part of population try to fight to cancel this devil law.
The engaged peoples.
After Fondation Brigitte Bardot and Brigitte Bardot herself is the turn of Pamela Anderson, heavily involved in animal causes , and Mickey Rourke to elevate their voices. When the American actor went to Bucharest last spring for shooting his latest film, it is not only fell in love with a German shepherd he later adopted , but it was also a donation of $ 250,000 to fund the first stone for the construction of a new shelter dog . Expected to be the size of a football field , the refuge, ” Wild Dogs of Romania Sanctuary ” at a cost of approximately $ 1.5 million , is expected to emerge in a southern district of the capital and could host “thousands dogs “so to avoid a tragic fate.
What about giving them a second chance? What about sterilization ?
